We were extraordinarily excited to welcome one of the most prominent global voices on corporate governance, Professor Mervyn King. As chair of the King Commission, and responsible for the King Reports on corporate governance for more than 20 years, this former Judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa has set the gold standard for value-driven business conduct. The most recent KING IV report, which was launched in Johannesburg November 2016, represents a fundamental shift in corporate governance thinking, towards a more integrated, responsible principle/outcomes-based approach.

We were also proud to welcome Sir Winfried Bischoff, Chair of UK Financial Reporting Council, Ms. Carine Smith Ihenaco , Global Head of Ownership Strategies, Norwegian Bank Investment Management (NBIM), Mr Hywel Ball, Managing Partner Assurance, EY UK & Ireland, as well as other distinguished guests, to discuss;

  • HOW corporate governance will be executed going forward;
  • WHO will be in charge;
  • WHAT their roles and mandates will be;
  • WHICH competence and personal values they will bring to the boardroom table;
  • HOW they – board directors and top managers – will ensure a corporate culture that underpins the purpose of the company

The discussion was moderated by Natalie Becker Aakervik, co-owner Thought Leader Global, former actress, television presenter and radio host in South Africa.

We thank all participants for a fruitful and constructive debate on how to move forward together!
